Outstanding Nominals

2011-21

Inkjet prints, various formats. 96 photographs.

Outstanding Nominals gathers research around a simple observation : by subtracting what fundamentally constitutes an image - the visible - and by exploring the thresholds of perception of the latter, another type of gaze is formed. The narrative potential - and with it the derivative principles of subversion, re-enchantment and retcon - are multiplied by this slowing down of vision. Outstanding Nominals shows photographs of rioters in European capitals that are extremely enlarged, making them abstract. The photographic sources are taken from the internet. The photographic sources have the particularity of being spotted both on the extreme right-wing propaganda sites and the more left wing websites that glorify direct action. In between, the images serve as illustrations for a general press that seeks a form of sensationalism and spectacular images of social tensions.
